Team Aeolus is a group of undergraduate students who are passionate about aviation and aerial robotics. By participating in competitions such as AIAA-DBF and AUVSI-IARC, we aim to apply the concepts that we learn in our classes. By doing so we not only learn about working in a team of like-minded peers, the nitty-gritties of conceptual design, programming, structural and aerodynamic analysis, electronics, composite fabrication etc. but also become engineers worthy of the title. During our 10 years of existence, we have consistently placed in the Top 3 in our country at the DBF competition and in Top 10 in the IARC competition and won numerous other national and regional competitions
The Design/Build/Fly or DBF competition, hosted by AIAA is one of the toughest and most challenging fixed wing RC plane competitions. The competition is intended to challenge the students to design, build, and fly a remote controlled airplane that can complete specific ground and flight missions. The rules for the competition change every year.
The International Aerial Robotics Competition is the longest running collegiate aerial robotics challenge in the world. Entering its third decade of advancing the state of the art in autonomous aerial robotic behaviour, the competition continues to tackle challenges that are currently impossible for any flying robots owned by government or industry. It is usually held in the third week of July at Georgia Tech, Atlanta, GA, USA annually.
IIT National Aeromodelling Competition for college students in India is sponsored by Boeing, and conducted in collaboration with IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur and IIT Madras. The competition is launched with the vision to provide a unified national platform for students interested in aerospace - to demonstrate their expertise.
The Drone Challenge is held every year at the ‘Techfest’, IIT Bombay in the first week of January, and ‘Team Aeolus’ never misses out to participate in this challenge. This competition involves an obstacle course through which the drone must be skilfully piloted. Numerous teams from various colleges across the country participate in this competition.
